@ quirk for oracle user

For a reason that I can not for the life of me figure out, the oracle user on 2 separate unix boxes can not type the @ sign unless it is preceeded by the \ sign. If I log in as root and su to oracle, it works fine. I have compared the results of set and env with root and other users and also the .profile's and .kshrc's and can't find the culprit. Any ideas?

Re: @ quirk for oracle user

Check the stty settings for the oracle user. From the passwd man page:

WARNINGS
Avoid password characters which have special meaning to the tty driver, such as # (erase) and @ (kill).

Re: @ quirk for oracle user

Hi Brett,

You can set the password with Special character like '@' but It'll not authenticate on HPUX though It does work on Solaris.

Try avoiding @ while setting password on HPUX.

Cheers!!

Re: @ quirk for oracle user

Good call, something was setting stty kill ^@, changed it to stty kill ^U

Thanks.

Re: @ quirk for oracle user

Nido,

I'm assuming that it wasn't necessarily when entering the password, that's why I suggested stty settings.
