"copy_boot_tape" showing Error

Dear ALL,

I have took ignite-backup of my RX6600 ( B.11.23) server using below command:
#nohup make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn &

It took backup successfully. But when i run below command its shows:

# /opt/ignite/bin/copy_boot_tape -u /dev/rmt/0mn -b -d /tmp
Rewinding tape /dev/rmt/0mn.
Extracting the boot area to /tmp/bootimage.
0+5 records in
0+5 records out
Boot file contents.
lifls: Can't list /tmp/bootimage; not a LIF volume
ERROR: lif image corrupted. Tape heads may need cleaning.
Rewinding and ejecting tape(s).

Before taking backup i have cleaned Tape Drive with Tape Cleaner & I have used New Tape Cartridge to backup.
Why the above output shows? Can i restore my system from the backup tape still above error exists?

Thanks
Minhaz

Re: "copy_boot_tape" showing Error

Hiya Minhaz!!

Have you tried to manually 'dd' the tape drive?

dd if=/dev/rdsk/c#t#d# of=/dev/rmt/0mn bs=2k

Let that run for a while, and see if it errors. If it does, try again with a new tape, or a known good one. If that doesn't work, I would suggest replacing the tape drive.

Re: "copy_boot_tape" showing Error

Hi Minhaz:

Your server is an Itanium one and 'copy_boot_tape' is used to replicate a PA-RISC boot tape.

Re: "copy_boot_tape" showing Error

Dear James ,

So for Itinium, Below error is normal?

lifls: Can't list /tmp/bootimage; not a LIF volume
ERROR: lif image corrupted. Tape heads may need cleaning.

Thanks

Yes, you can't use copy_boot_tape for an Integrity ignite tape, it doesn't have a LIF.

Here is where JRF's comment is documented:
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5992-5230/go01.html

copy_boot_tape
An Ignite-UX command that replicates a PA-RISC recovery tape made with make_tape_recovery. See copy_boot_tape(1M).
