re : cannot emulate using xmanager to unix host

Hi Guys,
Can someone advice, I have a hp rp6600 install with hp unix 11.31 vse os . Fater setting up, I found out that the english cde is not install by default, so I install the cde and enable the desktop. But, when I try to use xmanager to connect with xdmcp broadcast which by right I should see the ip_address of the unix hos and than I can connect to it with a GUI interface, unfortunately I can't get it to work. Please help and advice??

Apologised if the quetion is not clear. In short can we use xmanager to emulate on rx6600 install with hpux 11.31 vse via xdmcp broadcast . If it can why can't I see the ip_address of the server when I launch xmanager

Yes, you can use Xmanager to connect to remote HP-UX.

If you can't see the login screen with Xmanager, there can be number of reasons. But, first, you must ask:

1. What is the language setting on HP?
2. Can HP connect to PC? (Keep in mind that this is Not PC to HP direction)

I am assuming that your PC and HP are located in the same flat network.

1. Firewall on your PC. To fix this, allow incoming TCP 6000~6010 on your Windows firewall.

2. On your HP server side do this:

1. XDM Configuration
# /usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e [Enable]
2. Firewall (TCP/UDP Ports) Configuration
Open UDP port 177 from the PC to the remote host direction.
Open incoming TCP ports 6000~6010 from the remote host to your PC.
3. Reboot the remote host and start Xmanager

try installing the CDE English Bundle.
u can find this bundle in the HP core OS Install or the Application DVD.


This does not get installed by default.

I had faced the sam eprob and had come to find that installing that bundle had enabled CDE fully and i was able to get the Xmanager from the server.

do it , it shalll work.
