re : reset system configuration rx2660

Hi Guys,

     Can anyone help, I have a rx2660 install with hpux 11iv3 . Initially the console is path to VGA using conconfig , I have problem accessing the EFI shell as it does not go to the EFI shell instead i selected the system configuration and change the VGA to NC and serial to P . Save. But, it reboot , I connected my laptop through serial using putty and still cannot see any output at all, not even ctl - B . Is there a way to set it back to VGA with using conconfig.

Or is there a way to set it back to serial

Kindly advice??

Can you access the system via MP LAN?  If you can access the MP you can select Console and should be able to interact with the EFI shell (even when the console is configured incorrectly, the MP can access the console - at least until you boot the OS).  If you select Console and have no results, you may have to reset the server and monitor the console as it boots up.

Usually you see all EFI output on all output channels, so you should be able to run conconfig again.

Still anything on VGA?

Did you connect the serial cable to the "console" port, speed 9600?

    Thanks for the info, After I connect my laptop to serial link , I still can't see anything on the screen. and on my LCD screen is stuck at searching for devices. Kindly advice??

Searching for devices?   Hmmm, I am not sure exactly what you mean.  Do you mean during boot up and before you can access the EFI?  Something like the following:

-- 'SysROM:SCSI Bus Driver' returned Success

-- 'SysROM:SCSI Disk Driver' returned Success
Loading 'SysROM:SCSI Tape Driver'...
-- 'SysROM:SCSI Tape Driver' returned Success

Or do you see something like the following on the screen:

Launching /stand/vmunix
SIZE: Text:30905K + Data:7165K + BSS:7854K = Total:45925K

Console is on a Serial Device
Booting kernel...

Note the message that Console is on a Serial Device.   If you see this, what does yours report as?

Also, even if there is a problem at this level, you still should be able to access the MP.  Check your serial connections and cable...it must be a null-modem.  Have you connected to an MP or console using the same manner before?

Ah, now I may know where you are "stuck".  The line Searching for Devices appears just as you enter the EFI Shell.

For example:

You may actually have a hard drive or an I/O problem.  Try bringing your system to a minimal config (remove any I/O cards installed and unseat the disk drives. If you can progress beyond this, then reverse your steps.
