recover boot area in root disk

Dear all,

when i tried to create one new volume group i wrongly gave pvcreate on root volume.
like i want to create vg in c1t0d0 but i executed # pvcreate -f /dev/dsk/c0t0d0

This is the itanium machine and i kept this server in the power on contition. is there any way to reinstall the boot-LIF in the machine without reinstallation..

and the vg00 is also not mirrored...

Thanks in advance..

Re: recover boot area in root disk

Always be careful with "-f"!

However, I would try to restore the previous! vg00.config first (vgcfgrestore).

Hope this helps!

Hi:

Mirroring (either by software or by hardware arrays controllers) isn't going to matter when you remove things. The changes to the disk directories are ever so helpfully replicated making consistency the name of the game even if the universe is emptied.

Re: recover boot area in root disk

A mirror would be helpful, because this actin hits the disk only.

However, what gives vgdisplay and pvdisplay now?

If you restore the config as said (not the current lvmconf backup, but the previous!), make the disk bootable again just to be sure.

Hope this helps!

Re: recover boot area in root disk

Hi,

Thanks all for your reply.

I don't have any ignite backup or previous vg configuration.

Right now the os(11 v3) is up and running fine.

in the /etc/lvmtab under vg00 there are no disks right now.

i tried to mirror a new disk to the vg00 volume group. but i could not add.

Is there any other way to solve this ( like bootable cd, etc.. ) without reinstallation.

Re: recover boot area in root disk

A question for the group.

Wouldn't a vgcfgrestore -l /dev/vg00 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0 do the trick ?

Re: recover boot area in root disk

forgot that the partition is wiped...

What about re-init the partitions then the vgcfgrestore to /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s2 ?
