Re: reduce or increase a Root domain

Hi Prahesh,

You can not use addvol for root domain unless it's in a TruCluster environemnt. If it's a standalone system you have to increase the size of the underlying storage, if it's in a SAN, or re-create root domain on a larger volume.

Check out the AdvFS Administrators Guide Chapter 6 on growing domains, specifically 6.4.9 Increasing the Size of an AdvFS root Domain.

For v5.1B it's located off the System and Network Management Doc. Bookshelf ->
http://h30097.www3.hp.com/docs/base_doc/DOCUMENTATION/V51B_HTML/ARH96DTE/TITLE.HTM

Hope that helps.

Re: reduce or increase a Root domain

Hi Prathesh,

We had a similar issue, and managed to increase the size of the cluster_root on the SAN by initialising a new disk with the required amount of space on a partition, and then relocated the root domain to the new disk.... For sure this works for both increasing and decreasing the root domain size... then u can partition the original disk and relocate it back that's what we did... The only issue with reducing the size is that the size can't be smaller than the data currently existing on the root domain.
I'd also recommend that you keep in mind the recommended size for root usr and var in case you are considering doing rolling upgrades.

Re: reduce or increase a Root domain

Since 5.1B you can simple change the partitiontable or using lvm/lsm on the fly to increase the filesystem size.

After increasing the filesystem you can use the "extend" mountoption to reflect the new filesystem size. Have a look into the man pages for "mount" for additional informations and samples.

So there is no copy process or vdump/vrestore procedure needed as my previous writer told you....
