rmsf & mksf
can anyone tell me how to get a disk back using mksf. I used rmsf to remove it.
I got NO HW initially when doing ioscan.
I suspect that the disk was faulty before I started, but I am trying to get it up again.
I cannot see the disk when I do ioscan, but the device file for the disk still exists.
The disks I am importing to the server was exported with -s option on a previous server. I have allready imported vg01, but now & can only see one of my disks in vg02.
How do I get my ioscan to pickup the disks again.

Re: rmsf & mksf
Normally you can insert new hardware using the next command:
insf (or to regenerate insf -e will create for all hardware new special files)
But if the hardware cannot be seen by ioscan this will not work.
Are all cables connected correct? If you can see them with ioscan then you are able to run insf and do the import to the vg.
HTH,
Peter

Re: rmsf & mksf
If you get NO HW. The disk is not connected properly or is dead. If you are able to get to the server you could try pulling it out and putting it back in again. If this does not work i am afraid, you need to call HP te get the disk replaced.
If ioscan does not see the disk rmsf/infs/mksf does not have effect.

Gideon

Re: rmsf & mksf
Doesn't sound good but looks like your disk is either bad or is not connected properly.
I would suggest that you physically remove the disk and insert it back before doing an ioscan. If this doesn't help, have the HP guys look at the disk

Re: rmsf & mksf
*) find the command to create by mkfs
#mksf -C disk -H
*) Ensure ur disk is sensing by issuing the following command
#ioscan -fnC disk
If ur disk has sensed then only u can export, if it not sensed, observe the LED indication of disk. reboot the server and check thru sea.
*) Ensure u have not replaced the Harddisk after vgimport.
All the best

Re: rmsf & mksf
Try this
#insf -e
#ioscan -fnC disk you should be able to see the disk device file provided nothing is wrong with the disk..
