If you have Online JFS installed then you can extend MOST file systems online, without any issues.
However, the /stand, primary swap, and / file systems are harder to extend online. The reason is that they must all be contiguous (all of their extents must be sequential on the disk).
If you absolutely MUST extend one of the first 3 LV's then it is sometimes easier to just create an Ignite backup, restore your system from the Ignite backup, and modify your LV sizes during the restore process.
