Re: root partition to be increased

hi,

you could use ignite server, if you dont have a physical tape drive for ignite backup.

OR if this system is 11.23 and higher you could use DRD.

Re: root partition to be increased

Hi Fizan,

If you have any external tape drive in any server, you can connect it to this server and take ignite backup.

Re: root partition to be increased

so after taking an ignite restore, then again while installing the OS again we have to go via the "ADVANCED INSTALLATION" right and provide the needed size over there correct. so for that first need to install the ignite tool in the server right?

Re: root partition to be increased

Yes..

you need to install ignite first. From here:
https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/try.do?productNumber=IGNITEUXB

Take backup. You can use the "-i" option while taking ignite backup so the the booting will always be interactive.
Then boot from ignite tape and go for interactive mode. Go to file system menu, i suppose, and change the size.

You can have a look on Avinash's reply:

That might be helpful.

Hi,
>>so for that first need to install the ignite tool in the server right?

YES...
then while restore choose "ADVANCED INSTALLATION" there you define your new size of root and other file systems.

Re: root partition to be increased

Hi,

Most recommended method from Hp is to take the ignite backup, make sure latest ignite software â C.7.8.201 â installed in serve.

(1) #ioscan â fnC tape ( to detect the path of tape it should be /dev/rmt/0mn )

(2)
# /opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn

To take the ignite backup of root VG.

(3) Once it is completed you can verify successful completion in /var/opt/ignite/recovery/latest/recovery.log

(4) Boot the server from tape and then select â Advance installation mode â

Here you can modify new size of root.

(5) Take the full system offline backup before doing ignite backup and restoration (to be on safer side.).

Subodh.

Re: root partition to be increased

Hey,

Geoff Wild have made a site for tips and tricks:
http://www.met.ca/itrc/

And this is the trick you need:
http://www.met.ca/itrc/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=89&Itemid=2

This does not shed new light on the issue but anyway.

Re: root partition to be increased

hi Subodh,

while taking the ignite backup, make_tape_recovery how to backup as a boot image so whether we have to give any option like -b so that while booting from tape it will directly boot as boot image setup.
