Re: /root/.security/uid_gid_base.plx -a all

This looks like another home made script written in perl. Based on its name it probably does something with the user and group ID numbers in your server. Again you have to read it to be able to tell what exactly is doing.

Re: /root/.security/uid_gid_base.plx -a all

Thanks for your reply, I have read the script and it appears to be a program that will create a baseline of all uid and gid programs on a system and/or compare a current system against a previously saved a baseline. Why would I need to do this? I guess that should have been in my orginal question. Thanks for your patients

Re: /root/.security/uid_gid_base.plx -a all

This is something that the previous admin did either for their own benefit or because of a management need. Since it compares current vs. previous s-uid and s-gid programs and since it is under /root/.security it is probably a security scan to see if any changes were made to the system. Sometimes things like this are measures taken to satisfy a security audit.
