In addition to the previous advice to look at your IO layout, perhaps you are swapping...? Check the output from "swapinfo -mat" - look on the 'dev' line: anything >0% means you are swapping (perhaps your swap area is on these disks...?) - would also make sense with your statement "commands that are hanging"
If swapping to disk, then consider these 2 options: buy more (memory) or do less (adjust work profile)

correct swap is on vg00 but swapinfo which is attached, shows no swaping.
