running CDE on a remote pc

Hi,

Is there anything I need to set on the server end in order for me to run CDE on a PC?

I have the relevant software (e.g. Reflection X).

There's no problem telnet-ing to the server from the PC. The XDMCP just won't run.

Thanks

Hi James,

have you tried a direct connection with xdmcpdir? It works without a problem.

Hello,
Please do the following to run the CDE on your PC.

1) Run the reflection server
2) Open a cde terminal window using the reflection client.
a. Set the DISPLAY to your PC
b. i.e DISPLAY=PCIPADDRESS:0.0
c. export DISPLAY
3) Run /usr/dt/bin/dtterm
You will see the CDE environment in your PC now.

Trust this solves the problem.

Hi James,
Add your pc name in /etc/hosts and try connecting to the server using the XDMCP
direct.

I am 100% agree with BALA you can also use the Exceed hummingbird XDMCP Broadcast to locate all of your servers within your subnet, and after choosing any of them you can directly use their GUI.
