savecrash

on bootup I get this:

savecrash directory not set; defaulting to: /var/adm/crash
EXIT CODE: 2 - savecrash found no core dump to save
"/sbin/rc1.d/S440savecrash start" SKIPPED

why would there be a core dump?
how do I set this?

Re: savecrash

There isn't.

That is what it is saying :) "savecrash found no core dump to save"
Never preceed any demonstration with anything more predictive than "watch this"

Re: savecrash

Hi Matthew,
what happened before? Has the system crashed? If no then all is ok and you should ignore the message, but if the system has crashed there is something wrong.

Re: savecrash

Looking at how I have mine set up (so it does define a directory to save a core if there is one). I still get the message you did.

So setting it won't make it go away. At least it didn't for me.

Re: savecrash

Check the init configuration files in /etc/rc.config.d/. Check files savecrash. Here you can set dir and if you want to save crash.

The file /etc/rc.config.d/crashconf gives option regarding compressing crash etc etc.

Re: savecrash

You can change your dump-config in /etc/rc.config.d/crashconf

Re: savecrash

And if the system has crashed, the dump would not be written, message:

savecrash directory not set; defaulting to: /var/adm/crash EXIT CODE: 2 - savecrash found no core dump to save "/sbin/rc1.d/S440savecrash start" SKIPPED

You can save the crash file manually with the command:

# savecrash -v [-r] -t
