segmentation fault in open office

hi i am new to linux
iam facing a problem in open office
i have a hp tc2120 server loaded with redhat linux es
the problem is i cannot open openoffice on clicking the ikon i use the command oowriter from the command window it is giving the error

segmentation fault

but open office is working fine in my thin client with the same user

You may be short of memory or have a problem with your local x windows settings.

it may not be memory problem ok it may be a x window setting but what it is

most likely is you dont have some of the required fonts for openoffice.

RHES is enterprise server, we can not be very sure whether it has all components required to run openoffice. why dont you try some desktop versions which take care of these needs. Fedora Core 3 would be a best choice.

but as i told before it is working in the thin client which is connected to the server
with same desktop

This may or may not be useful to you, but when I run into seg faults I always use strace to see what is happening up to the sefault..

host$ strace oowriter

There will be a LOT of output from this, but usually the most recent 50-100 lines has been useful to me in diagnosing problems.
