select new patches
Hi Experts,
I have few L series and rp series servers in my environment. We normally not doing any kind of patching until any problem faced.
Now customer need to do some patching on every quarter or half year busies as per the released patch by HP.
I don't know how to select new release patches and also not know that will they be fine in my existing environment. Customer is using SAP/R3 and BW applications.
I request you to guide me in patch selection area.
Thanks in advance.

Re: select new patches
Hi.
You can download bundled patches made by HP every few months .
There are few types of bundles dependent on the OS, like HWEnable, BUNDLE, FEATURE and GOLD bundles.
Log in to :
http://www12.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/mainPage.do;HP-ESC-S-WPA-IDX=HpGbzqNnhhfjCYnVSK2PFnY8kvmMv3PCh4GfmY9vPPL0DhVgM1vY!-335325064!-684970416?admit=109447627+1202292379704+28353475
In this link you can look for the section called : "HPUX Patch bundles" to download the latest patch bundles.
You can also find patches for your specific system under "find patches for my system" section or under "run a patch assessment" . To use this , you will have to create a xml file. It is all described in the site.

Re: select new patches
Shalom,
HP releases major patch sets bi-annually here:
http://www11.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/mainPage.do
You can do patch assessments or build your own custom bundles.
The site search within the patch database works reasonably well.
For very large patch sets, I recommend using ftp script option for download.
Best to start with a document from SAP as far as what patches are required minimally

Re: select new patches
Hi:
My choice would be to download and install the Software Assistant Tool (SWA). SWA can perform a number of checks including those related to published security issues, installed patches with warnings, and missing patches with critical fixes. Once an analysis has been performed, SWA can download any recommended patches or patch bundles and create a depot ready for installation. The tool obviates more manual, tedious patch analysis and collection.
http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B6834AA
With this tool, you can download everything you need to bring your server up-to-date. A single patch depot will be created and you will only need to reboot once to apply its contents.
This tool replaces the older Security Patch Check and Patch Assessment tool and is far easier to use. SWA can deliver the standard patch bundles you need.
An overview of the product, including its manpages can be found here:
http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-2903/index.html
The manpages are straightforward and show how to configure and use the product.
Regards!
