sendmail permission denied
I getting on a 5.1B-2 installation the error message:
Can't create transcript file ./xfj5UApo10000323802: Permission denied
Cannot create ./dfj5UApo10000323802: Permission denied
Any idea?
thanks,
Michael
The acess rights for standard files/dirs are:
-rws--x--x 5 root bin 667296 Jun 16 2004 /usr/sbin/sendmail
drwxrwxr-x 2 bin bin 8192 Jun 30 11:33 /var/spool/mqueue
drwxrwxrwt 2 root system 8192 Jun 30 12:30 /var/tmp

Re: sendmail permission denied
this is weird. I just saw in the sendmail doc that /var/spool/mqueue should have access 700. Setting that and the error disappeared. What make me wonder why it runs on one host and on another not!
Any idea?
thanks,
Michael

Re: sendmail permission denied
I have reopened the thread because the error message does not make sense to me. It is a bit misleading. How can root have permission problems on /var/spool/mqueue?
Any idea?
thanks,
Michael

Re: sendmail permission denied
Maybe you have the Run_As_User configuration option modified.

Re: sendmail permission denied
most of my servers (5.1B-3) have the permissions as shown below
-rws--x--x 5 root bin 667296 Jun 15 2004 /usr/sbin/sendmail
drwxr-xr-x 2 root system 8192 Jun 30 22:21 mqueue
and of course /var/tmp is 777
I am really not sure why you are getting this problem.

Re: sendmail permission denied
Actually owner of /var/spool/mqueue being root or not is the straw that makes it breaks it. When it is root, it works when not the you get the permission denied.
really strange and not understandable.
