setting up tape unit

I got a HP 9000 715/80 for xmas want to add my
HP c1533a tape backup unit to it so I ran sam
it recognizes the unit but when I attempt a backup
I am asked to specify what kind of characteristics

device file, density, rewind and semantics
best yes/no att or berkeley

or create a custom device file. darn what should I do?
P.S. I pulled the tape unit out of my apple and
have it in an external case I hope this will not be a problem.

P.S. This thread has been moved from Storage>General to HP-UX > sysadmin. -HP Forum Moderator

Re: setting up tape unit

Hello,

just try a "insf -e" from the command line (as user "root", of course). That should generate ALL the device files ever needed...
I do assume here, you are using HP-UX 11.x, don't you?

BTW: A good idea would be to install "Ignite/UX" onto your new system and backup your system with "make_tape_recovery" - then you can simply boot from that tape and get everything restored (even if the disk did NOT boot any more).
Get it free from http:/software.hp.com/products/IUX/
