sftp to remote host

I am trying to connect to a remote host using sftp/ssh. Upon initial connection it gave me
the RSA key fingerprint and said it was permanently added to my list of known hosts.

So now how do I us this key to sftp to the remote location using a cron?

At the moment it asks me for a password everytime, so the cron is failing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Re: sftp to remote host

What you've done is only part of the process. To avoid future usage of password, you also need to use ssh-keygen to create public and private key and put the public key in the remote site. For details to

man ssh-keygen.

Re: sftp to remote host

so now i've created the id_dsa.pub, do I need to now have the vendor add this to his authorized_keys?

Re: sftp to remote host

Yes, the remote site need to append the public key to file .ssh/authorized_keys.

Re: sftp to remote host

That did it ... I finally got someone to add it to the remote site and now it works great! Thank you!
