smsd process

Hello,

1- I would like to know the role of the smsd process under Tru64 Unix 5.1 (ES40 server );
It is consuming more than 30% of the CPU;
Can i terminate it.
2- How can i load "top" utlity on the above server.

been using.

smsd is used by 'sms' (SysMan Station) gui application. Feel free to stop it!

You can very well load 'top' on any server!

I could downaload top from the following links :

and i installed the bundle on the server but i could not run top.
NB : the file is top.c

There may be a README or similar file along with the src file. Read and compile the program code to generate the binary file. Once that is done, you can run the 'top' binary.
