ssh connection isue after password reset

As Dennis pointed out, seems to me like this is a bad call to passwd. Bad DNS resolution may cause delay in authentication process and maybe timeout, but not a usage message from passwd.

Could you please give us the content of your /etc/nsswitch.conf file ?

Hi,
I have tried all combinations in nsswitch.conf. tried to use hosts file as the name resolution service, DNS alone as Aname resolution and all other possible combinations, but no success.

Also the -vvv option is what I pasted in my first query. It receives an eof soon after the the password is entered and closing the connection. Not sure what causes this eof.
