swinstall error:RPC exception: "Invalid network address (dce / rpc)"
Hi,
I installed 11.31 (sept 09) on a rx2620.
When I try to install extra software with swinstall I get errors like Could not open remote depot/root "/SD_CDROM" due to an RPC or
network I/O error. Plus the one in the title. I get these from the gui aswell as from the commandline. Also I'm connected via the console. Found something in the HP docs about increasing rpc_timeout but this shouldn't do anything from the console.
TIA,
Michiel

Re: swinstall error:RPC exception: "Invalid network address (dce / rpc)"
Hoi Michiel,
Check the ip/hostname configuration of your system.
# nslookup your-ip-address
# nslookup your-hostname
Check the following files;
/etc/nsswitch.conf
/etc/hosts
/etc/resolv.conf (dns)
/etc/rc.config.d/netconf
Restart the swagent daemon.
# swagentd -r
Regards,
Robert-Jan

Re: swinstall error:RPC exception: "Invalid network address (dce / rpc)"
Hoi Robert-Jan,
It appeared that we have two domain names here (Windows installation) of which one is a pr├Г┬й Windows 2003 name though both are in use. I used the old domain name but the dns has the new extension. This should work however but didn't. I changed the resolv.conf and swinstall works now.
Anyway, thanks for the tips.
