syslog message not updated

Syslog message not updated in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log. Kindly find the below output
[rajesh@Prod2]$ps -ef |grep syslogd
rajesh 28633 28617 0 18:42:51 pts/3 0:00 grep syslogd

1.we also restarted the syslogd process .but still syslog message not updated.
Command
/sbin/init.d/syslogd stop
/sbin/init.d/syslogd start

Shalom,

Check the existence of the following file:

/etc/syslog.conf

Make sure its not been changed. If its missing in action, copy it in from another system.

There should be an error message in /etc/rc.log if the system has been booted in this condition.

Hi:

Since you have restarted the 'syslogd' daemon to no avail, I suspect that you modified '/etc/syslog.conf'. The selector/action pairs in '/etc/syslog.conf' use *tabs* as separator characters, not spaces. A post of:

# cat -etv /etc/syslog.conf'

...will reveal this if that's the reason.
