Re: taking time on booting HP-UX server
ya u can config the system crash dumps using the crashconf command to add/delete new dump device or can also edit the file /sbin/init.d/crashconf so as to configure teh crash at system boot
CRASHCONF=1
CRASHCONF=0
1 to configure the crash at the system boot
0 not to configure the crash at the system boot. Also u can tell which Crash pages and Crash devices to include here in thsi file.
u can also edit the file /etc/rc.config.d/savecrash
to define whether u want to save the crash or not , to which directory (/var/adm/crash) is the default
SAVECRASH=1 --- if u want to save the crash
SAVECRASH=0 if u do not want ot save the crash
compress the crash or to tell some other location to keep the crash file etc.
yes this is possiblr to do that in Single user mode.

Re: taking time on booting HP-UX server
Looks like the dump disk is dead or offline.
Any system like this should be able to get past this step in seconds.
You have a bad disk, look at the system for warning lights. Call hardware service if you have that contracted.
