tar command

Hi Admins,
how can I do:
extract tar files written with absolute filenames to a different location.
please advise.

Hi,

you can advise tar to use a relative path with the s option during extract.
It then uses the rest of the path without the leading /
So do a cd to a place where it does not matter to create the directory structure.
