telnet connection
--------
Server:
RP3440 HP-UX 11.11
lan0 to router
lan1 ro router
Host:
PC running a telnet&ftp server. Reachable from other sites.
PROBLEM:
-From the server I can ping the host, but I can not telnet it, or ftp it.
-I can send snmp ping to the host too. It seems that tcp has problems but not udp.
-Traceroute to the PC is OK.
-How can I realize over wich lan ping/telnet/snmp are going?
-How can I realize if my server is blocking this protocols?
TIA&BR,
Juan.

Re: telnet connection
Try restarting the inetd daemon
inetd -k
inetd -c
There is good help on that one.
see /etc/inted.conf and make sure telnetd is configured to run.

Re: telnet connection
If I understand this correctly you are using the HP-UX box as a client to telnet to your PC.
You can ping the PC, but you cannot telnet or ftp to it. You apparently have the PC services up and running and can access those services from other clients on your LAN. Am I correct? YES YOU ARE.
If so I would think that maybe there is a firewall in between somewhere. JUST 2/3 ROUTERS.
Maybe you have a personal firewall that only allows people from your own subnet to access your machine. It's hard to say.
AFAIK THERA ARE NO FIREWALLS...
TIA&BR!

I have a feeling in the end it is going to be something really simple.
