please explain fields in top command

From the manpages: the "...virtual and real memory used by user processes (with the amount of memory considered "active" in parentheses) and the amount of free memory."

hi ,

server have

real memory 4GB
virtual memory 4GB

this is not reflect in top command memory output.please explain

Users processes aren't using the full server (and are unlikely to ever do so - the kernel does need some resources).

That's why the man page says the part about "used by user processes" not "used across the system" and why top is not an indication of system consumption as a whole (though you can infer some things from the "free" count).
