Is there a way to get around the 8 character limit of uname? HPUX 11.11

Re: uname

As far as I know, uname can't be greater than
8 chars. But hostname can be 256 (in hp-ux 11i, v2).

Re: uname

Check out Bill Hassel's responses in this thread:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=780160

He details the differences between nodename and hostname and the requirements for each.

Re: uname

Bill Hassel's response sums up the whole thing. One
small addition to Bill's response is, though nodename
or the internet hostname is 64 chars in HP-UX 11i,
v1 and v2, it's increased to 256 chars in the
HP-UX 11i, v2 Sept 04 release (aka HP-UX 11.23PI).
To be sure of this length on your machine, take a
look at the size of MAXHOSTNAMELEN in file
/usr/include/sys/param.h.
