useradd error: not a valid directory

Trying to run useradd but the -d parameter is so long (78 characters) that it errors out, saying:

...... is not a valid directory

could it be something other than the length of the home directory?

Re: useradd error: not a valid directory

Hi:

You could show the command you are using and the OS level --- that's always "nice".

That said, when using the '-d' option To specify directory creation, you must use the '-m' option too.

Re: useradd error: not a valid directory

Try it with a dummy directory - something like /tmp/userdir. Then you'll know.
