/var/sam/lp directory missing?

I have three HPUX (B.11.31) servers.
Two of them have a directory called /var/sam/lp

One does not.

I have been setting up rsync replication for printing, and when I moved my scripts to the production server, I discovered it did not have the /var/sam/lp directory.

Can anyone tell me what that directory does an why it might be misssing on one server?

Re: /var/sam/lp directory missing?

Hi,

By default not exist. On old 11i you can create this structure with SAM:
SAM/Printer and Plotter/LP Spooler/Save/Restore Spooler Configuration/Save

Also by command you can create this spool backup struture:
/usr/sam/lbin/lpmgr -S -xsavedir=/var/sam/lp

Rgds.

Re: /var/sam/lp directory missing?

var stands for Variable data in unix, under root file system. and sam is a place for variable config data , lp probably stands for line printing , and you can partially restore from any ignite backup partially.
Or other servers identical , you can just copy from there.
in the first place it is hard to say why it is missing, maybe deleted with mistake OR never created before ?

Re: /var/sam/lp directory missing?

Thanks.
I've configured rsync for only the /etc/lp and /var/spool/lp directories and everything appears to be working.
