Re: vgextned problem?

Shalom,

Well, not a lot to go on.

The failure message would help.

Normally what happens is there are not enough extents in the volume group to allocate to the new disks. So trying to add 4 more disks will not help.

Better to rebuild the volume group.

vgexport it.

vgcreate it anew using perhaps the -p of disks option. This changes the default allocation scheme and normally permits a better allocation plan. Or the -s option for bigger size of extents.

After vgcreate you vgimport the old volume group disks and should be able to vgextend.

The error message would be very helpful in making my guess.

Re: vgextned problem?

Hi,

Yes, if you have striped your logical volumes over 4 disks and you would like to extend these volumes, you should add another 4 disks.

Re: vgextned problem?

Hi,

if ur using storage ,lun, raid etc.Its not possible to add only 2 disks.
Then u have to add 4 disks.( it may be 1 lun if ur using 4 disk for creating 1 lun) .Bcos u wrote that we r using striping .

use the
vgextend
vgexport
vgimport
commands. check the man pages for it.I
hope that u will be aware to all these steps

Re: vgextned problem?

Hi Huaxiang,

vgextend is nowhere related to striping. Striping comes into picture when you create logical volumes. You can have both striped and non-striped lv's on a VG.

You can extend the VG in your case. If you could provide the error message and the commands you followed to extend the VG, will be helpful to assist you.
Best wishes,

Ganesh.
