vgreduce help

Hi all,

I have vg00 and vg01. vg00 has some extra space that I would like to move to vg01. Can this be done without blowing away the logical volumes that currently exist in vg00? I imagine not, but just need confirmation.

Thanks,
SD

Re: vgreduce help

Sally,

The main concern is whether this is a separate disk drive or not. You can't just move space and a disk can not be shared between more than one VG.

Re: vgreduce help

You can move disks from vg00 to vg01, but they must be totally unused.

You can't move part of a disk between volume groups.

Re: vgreduce help

A physical volume can only be a member of one volume group. If all the free physical extents in vg00 reside in an otherwise unused PV then yes; you can vgreduce vg00 and then vgextend vg01. I very much doubt that you have this situation.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: vgreduce help

Hi ,

verify the PV use with pv display ..
Check if you can make any PV free by moving PEs across PVs (not this will work only in same VG)

If you can make any PV free , then vgreduce the vg with that PV .

pvcreate and then add the PV to the VG u need using vgextned.
