Re: vmunix: tunioctl(0):

If this is a production server and all works, i would wait in installing the patch, i'm a little paranoid about ARPA and NFS patches....

If is a test box, give it a try.

But let's here suggestions from others.

Re: vmunix: tunioctl(0):

This is a production server and all works fine and only server which has external modem.

Do you all recommend for the patch.

Steve,

If all works fine, wait for a maintenance window. Backup your system + ignite tape and install the above patch.

Re: vmunix: tunioctl(0):

I am also getting this message.  I never go it before, until I updated another disk to be the alternate boot

drive.  HP 9000 K-server running 11.00

Now I get

Sep 17 09:21:12 telcove vmunix: tunioctl(0): Unknown ioctl 0x800c4416, count 12
Sep 17 09:21:12 telcove vmunix: tunioctl(0): Unknown ioctl 0x80144415, count 0
Sep 17 09:38:38 telcove vmunix: tunioctl(0): Unknown ioctl 0x800c4416, count 12
Sep 17 09:38:38 telcove vmunix: tunioctl(0): Unknown ioctl 0x80144415, count 0

in my dmesg output  and   whenever I use PPP.

Funny think is, I am able to get the PPP session up, but cant do any ftp/telnet even though I can ping

the machine.

Have you installed any of the above patches?  (Do you have a support contract?)

PHNE_35729 supersedes PHNE_28538.

Re: vmunix: tunioctl(0):

No I dont have PHNE_35729 or the older PHNE_28538 installed.

Unfortunatley our service agreement has expired long ago.

Is there a way to still pick up these old 11.00 patches?

Re: vmunix: tunioctl(0):

Just as a side note, I saw that PHNE_28538 corrects the problem of the messages filling up syslog.log

That really isn't my problem.  Saw other patches PHNE_16386 or PHNE_22527.

My problem is that dmesg displays this ioctl tunioctl(0) message in addition this problem

blocks my PPP telnet sessions with the same error message showing up in syslog.log.

The setup for PPP works fine.  I can ping no problem.   As soon as I try and setup an ftp or telnet session - it's a no go.

The patch is still there on HPSC.  And you'll need a SAID to access them.
