vnc and xhost
I perform the following actions remotely via a putty window on an HP-UX 11.11 server that I do not have the ability to send back an Xwindow on.
# export DISPLAY=chamber:2.0
# vncserver :2
# xhost +
I then close the putty window.
Will the xhost + and DISPLAY continue to exist in the vnc session?

Will the xhost + and DISPLAY continue to exist in the vnc session?
Computers are just external storage for my brain.

Shalom,
DISPLAY will go away when the session that set the variable is shut down.
Close the putty window, its all gone.

Re: vnc and xhost
That's what I thought, however the DBA and the Operations Manager INSIST that I issue these commands after every weekly reboot or the Oracle print services will not work.

It's not obvious to me how any of that stuff
would relate to any print services, but, even
knowing nothing, it would seem that a simple
experiment would reveal the Truth.

In some cases, facts can be persuasive.
A clearer explanation of what you're actually
trying to do might also be useful.
