vpar problem - crash state
We have 3 virtual partitions on a rp8420. we rebooted one of the virtual partition and it got hung now. It is in "crash" state for quit long time now.
vparstatus output:
[Virtual Partition]
Boot
Virtual Partition Name State Attributes Kernel Path Opts
============================== ===== ============ ======================= =====
h1ctp04a Up Dyn,Auto,Asr /stand/vmunix
h1cp399a Crash Dyn,Auto,Nsr /stand/vmunix
h1cp301a Up Dyn,Auto,Asr /stand/vmunix
It is not moving to either down state or boot state.
When I look at the vparextract output, this is error i found.
INFO:CPU9:h1cp301a:h1cp399a: hard reset
INFO:CPU9:h1cp301a:Reset of CPU :0x00000000001abc20 in vPar : h1cp399a failed (in_mon_cs: 1)
INFO:CPU9:h1cp301a:Lock I/O and Filesystem Lock is held by cpu 0x00000000001abc20
INFO:CPU9:h1cp301a:toc_vp(target_partnum : 1) : shoot_cpu(cpup : 1abc20) failed
It looks both TOC/hard reset options are failed during cpu reset because the cpu is locked by some other thing.
How we can force the vpar to down state or reboot it?
Thanks in advance
Ganesh.

Re: vpar problem - crash state
There were some advisories in the past related to vpar versions.
Please tell the vpar version (is it a mixed vpars) & os versions installed in each vpar?
Thanks,
Vivek

Re: vpar problem - crash state
I tried both vparreset and vparboot command when the vpar in crash state. but it failed with below errors.
# vparreset -p h1cp399a
vparreset: Warning: Default reset option (-t) used.
Reset virtual partition h1cp399a? [n] y
vparreset: Error: h1cp399a could not be reset.
Shutdown all running virtual partitions and Ctl-B TC to recover this vpar,
or contact your HP Support representative.
# vparreset -p h1cp399a -h
Reset virtual partition h1cp399a? [n] y
vparreset: Error: h1cp399a could not be reset.
Please retry a hard reset of this virtual partition later.
But the same command works after sometime. I really dont know what fixed the issue.
First we issued vparreset to halt the vpar and then used vparboot command to boot the vpar. It works finally.
Anyway thanks to all for your help.
Ganesh.
