Make sure that you have the latest VxVM Cumulative patches, vxprivutil hanging has also been fixed by those patches.

Are there any error messages in the /var/adm/syslog/sylog.log file during the command execution?

I think that error is genearated due to the s2 extention added to the disk when a root disk is added. Removing the disk from rootdg then looks for c2t6d0 and not c2t6d0s2
