Re: vx_nospace - /dev/root file system full
Can I safely remove the /dev/rmt/3m file? Instead of creating a space situation in root file system, WHY HP-UX is not smart enough to give an error message on 3m instead?

Solution>can I safely remove the /dev/rmt/3m file?
Sure, you'll need to restart the backup.
>Why is not HP-UX smart enough to give an error message on 3m instead?
Because that's a valid file, though a common mistake. There is no advanced AI technology to determine you made a typo and it shouldn't create a regular file in /dev/.

Re: vx_nospace - /dev/root file system full
Thanks for your reply. I am experience same challenge now. I have removed the UPS device manually but still cannot access the server. I still get the message " msgcnt 112 vxfs: mesg 001: vx_nospace - /dev/root file system full (1 block ext)

Re: vx_nospace - /dev/root file system full
you need available space to login to the server. You will have to reboot in single user mode so you can cleanup the filesystem.

Re: vx_nospace - /dev/root file system full
You have to reboot the server and go in to single user mode.
run fsck for /usr LV and mount /usr for rm command to work.
free up the space and move to init 3.
