vxfs file system error.
Hi All,
I got the following message in syslog,
Sep 23 23:03:00 suboz014 vmunix: vxfs: mesg 055: vx_metaioerr - /dev/vg02/lvol1 file system meta data read error
Sep 23 23:03:00 suboz014 vmunix: vxfs: mesg 003: vx_mapbad - /dev/vg02/lvol1 file system free extent bitmap in au 68 marked bad,
Could anyone tell what does this mean exactly.
Regards
VP

Re: vxfs file system error.
Hi VP,
This may most probably be related to problems on underlying physical disk. What I would is to immediately take a good backup of this filesystem if possible.
Then see if there are any problems with the disk(s) containing the LV. 'lvdisplay -v /dev/vg02/lvol1' will show you the disks. Look for lbolt/POWERFAILED errors in dmesg and syslog.log. Run ioscan -fnC disk and make sure these disks are in fact claimed. Run dd to ensure that there are no IO problems with the disk
dd if=/dev/rdsk/cxtydz of=/dev/null bs=1024k
If there is a problem with the disk, then you will need to fix it. Once you have the backup, then unmount the filesystem and do a full filesystem check
fsck -y -o full /dev/vg00/rlvol1

You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try
