Re: what is the difference between HP-UX & RHEL?
1) One is made by HP, the other Red Hat
2) One is proprietary, the other based on open-source
3) One runs on PA-RISC and Itanium architecture servers, the other mostly on x86 based servers.
4) One uses 'swinstall' to install (some) software and patches, then other yum.
5) One is a whole lot older than the other.

Re: what is the difference between HP-UX & RHEL?
1)In HP Unix u cannot customize according to us requirement but in Red Hat Linux u can customize.
2)In HP Unix best solution for OS and other backup Ignite Ux, such solution is not there in RHEL
3)In HP Unix for installation of patches and other software swinstall is used, total diff in RHEL, 3 step install in RHEL ./configure,make and make install and tar ball install.
4)Boot process is totally diff in both HP Unix n RHEL.
5)In HP Unix its fileset, patches, depot and patch bundle but in RHEL its RPM.
Hope this solves ur query.

Re: what is the difference between HP-UX & RHEL?
from customization i suppose you mean you can make your own rpm file install it on all your machine according to your need.
But in HPUX its not possible.
Anyways, HPUX is much more stable and have better support than RHEL.

Re: what is the difference between HP-UX & RHEL?
Hope ur query is resolved by Kapil's comment I mean to say the same, and one more is that u can compile the kernel in RHEL an not in HP Unix.
Yes Kapil I do agree HP Unix is much more stable and have better support than RHEL.

Re: what is the difference between HP-UX & RHEL?
"from customization i suppose you mean you can make your own rpm file install it on all your machine according to your need.

FALSE: You can create your own so called software "depots" (the equivalent of rpms). see swpackage and other sw toolz.
Vishnu>>
"and one more is that u can compile the kernel in RHEL an not in HP Unix."
Because there is really no "regular" need sirs. Just like in RHEL, how often do you really need to compile your kernel these days? Everyhing is modularized so no need to wholly re-compile the kernel.
