Hi Vinay,

Powerpath is a multipath management software.
If you are using hp ux 11.31 it is not much usefull as you have native multipathing software available in hp-ux 11.31 by default.

Powerpath will allow you to manage your multiple paths to EMC storage LUNs. It will allow you to configure loadbalancing and highavailability.

Hi:

EMC Powerpath allows active load-balancing to be performed across multiple (alternate) paths to a particular physical disk.

Before 11.31 and its new Mass Storage Stack, LVM alternate links did *not* load-balance I/O. In the case of two pvlinks, one would be selected as the active one and the other remain passive. If the active link failed for any reason, the alternate (secondary) would take over, but during normal operation, I/O was confined to only one path. EMC's Powerpath product was necessary, therefore, to have active/active paths with load-balancing as well as high-availability before HP-UX 11.31. With 11.31, Powerpath isn't necessary.

Using Power path you can easily identify newly presented LUNS using LUN ID .

It is a active / active Multipathing Software used for EMC Storage LUNS.

powermt check ---> To Discover the luns
powermt config --- > Initialise the configuration
powermt save ----> To Save the configuration
powermt display dev=all --- > To display the complete configuration

Hi,

In HPUX 11iv3, requirement and knowing the commands of third party tools as power path, auto path, secure path are not required. Load balancing is done and I/O load can be distributed in a round robin fashion when it comes to the default behaviour. All of which are configured by scsimgr. Concept of PV links is deprecated in HPUX 11iv3. There are also some nice algorithms related to LUN path failover and recovery. Scsimgr is a huge command with so many options and there is even a help option for each option of scsimgr. And hence the awesome term "native multipathing".

Could you mention the HPUX version you are using?

If its 11.3 ,multipathing option is inbuilt ,else if its a older version the management software needed to be loaded well.

use:

Nothing but for highly availability

Redundancy , Optimizationpowermt check, powermt config , powermt save, powermt display dev=all

These are the most dearly using handy cmds related to Multipath.
