I know nothing, but that sounds like a small difference.  (Is the
color different?)  How old is the CR-504-C?  Do you know if this drive
works?

It may be.  If I wanted to know, then I'd try it.

My (old) notes suggest that I had a "Gateway CDRSCS014ABWW"
(Matsu**bleep**a CR-506-B, 8X) and a "Panasonic LK-MC606B" (Matsu**bleep**a
CR-508, 24X) working in an old VAXstation (3100 model 38?), so I would
guess that an Apple-branded CR-504-C would work, especially if an
Apple-branded CR-504-something_else did, but I'll let you decide what my
guess is worth.

If the CR-504-C has a block-size jumper, then you might get a better
result if it's set to 512.  Again, I'd run the experiment.

From what I can tell, the -C variant is an IDE based CD drive and the -K is a SCSI. That being the case, the actual drive itself (transport) should be the same with a different controller card attached. Worse case, swap the onboard controller cards.
