Can not see new MSA 2040 from OpenVMS AXP 7.3-2
Hi all,
We've installed a new MSA 2040 in our environment. We bought this to use with several disaparate systems on our HP SAN. HP says the MSA 2040 is supported on OpenVMS 8.2 and above on Integrity.
We'd really like to use it with our legacy OpenVMS AXP 7.3-2 system, but the OS does not see the device after doing an SYSMAN IO AUTOCONFIGURE. The MSA itself does see the AlphaServer ES80 hardware and reports the ES80's WWID. The ES80 also sees the MSA 2040, as reported at the >>> prompt. But this older OpenVMS system does not recognize it
This is the only result I get from the OS (using an MSA LUN of 77):
SYSMAN> io auto/log
%SYSMAN-I-OUTPUT, command execution on node BAAL
%IOGEN-I-PREFIX, searching for ICBM with prefix SYS$
%IOGEN-I-PREFIX, searching for ICBM with prefix DECW$
%IOGEN-I-FIBREPOLL, scanning for devices through FIBRE port PGA0
%IOGEN-I-SCSIPOLL, scanning for devices through SCSI port PKA0
%IOGEN-I-FIBREPOLL, scanning for devices through FIBRE port PGB0
%IOGEN-E-NODEVID, no identifier defined for device unit D77
%IOGEN-I-SCSIPOLL, scanning for devices through SCSI port PKB0
SYSMAN>
Has anyone else tried this? Maybe got it to work? Care to share/comment?
Thanks!

Re: Can not see new MSA 2040 from OpenVMS AXP 7.3-2
You must set a device identifier for this lun on the controller, VMS will not see the units without it.

Re: Can not see new MSA 2040 from OpenVMS AXP 7.3-2
If I remember right:
there is a 999 limit of the luns for older VMS version.

Re: Can not see new MSA 2040 from OpenVMS AXP 7.3-2
There was a limit of 9999 for cloned devices but that was raised to 32767 in V7.3-2.
For luns the limit is 255 for most controllers, identifiers may go up to 32767.
