TCP/IP 5.7 eco 2 on Alpha VMS 8.3
Is there any objection against installing TCP/IP 5.7 ECO 2 on OpenVMS Alpha 8.3?
We found the kit when searching for patches on ITRC.
It does install, the kit checks for minimum version VMS 8.3 and everything seems to work without
problems on a test machine.

Re: TCP/IP 5.7 eco 2 on Alpha VMS 8.3
Jose,
according to the TCPIP V5.7 ECO 2 release notes, this should be supported:
...
2.3 Version(s) of OpenVMS to which this kit may be applied:
OpenVMS Alpha V8.3 and later
...
Volker.

Re: TCP/IP 5.7 eco 2 on Alpha VMS 8.3
Yes, and the VMS version must not be 9 or higher :-)
From the pcsi$description of the DEC-AXPVMS-TCPIP-V0507-13ECO2-1 kit:
software DEC AXPVMS VMS ;
if (not <software DEC AXPVMS VMS version below V9.0 version minimum V8.3>) ;
error TCPIP_NOT_SUPPORTED ;
end if ;
I was curious if anybody found any problems running TCPIP 5.7 on VMS 8.3.

Re: TCP/IP 5.7 eco 2 on Alpha VMS 8.3
Set your VMS version to 9.1 or so, install the patch, and see if the patch works for you; you might just be the first person to test the installation, too.
$ SET PROCESS /PRIVILEGE=ALL
$ SET DEFAULT SYS$COMMON:[SYS$LDR]
$ RUN SYSVER
REPLACE V9.1
WRITE
$ EXIT
Might need a reboot to get that to fully register the change, and a re-set and reboot to clear it when you set it back toi V8.3 later.
And in general, y'all might want to report this to HP support, though they may already be aware of it.

:-) Ok, and how do I change the version of TCP to 5.6?
