Duplicate SNMP trap from the same server issue.
Ok guys I'm a noob to HP SIM.
Didn't set the server up etc....
Got tossed into setting up the snmp clients on the servers.
The pain I'm having is getting duplicate (SNMP) Link Up from the same server.
Heck I get duplicate alerts from all my servers and it's driving me nuts. Help?
I have checked the server snmp setting and this is what I have
Windows 2008 R2
I have 2 Community name
RW and RO - in each trap I have the name of the HP SIM server.
Security Tab - I have RW with read write and RO with read only.
Am I missing out on something?
Help this Noob out.
Thanks,
nhb

Re: Duplicate SNMP trap from the same server issue.
hi,
duplicate Events from the same server in HP SIM could be because of the iLO configuration.
Under Administration --> Management you can set SNMP pass-thru on enabled.
If you do so, the iLO will pass-thru its events to the Systems Operating system.
If you have configured the agents to send the SNMP Events to HP SIM and also the iLO to send its events to HP SIM it could be that this is the source of duplicate Events (one sent over ilo and one over SNMP through the OS)

Ville

Re: Duplicate SNMP trap from the same server issue.
Hi,
If you define the HP SIM server as a destination for each of the two defined communities it will receive a trap twice, one for each community.
You should just use the RO community to send the traps.

Pierre-Marie

Re: Duplicate SNMP trap from the same server issue.
Check your ILO its probably forwarding the alert as well we have encountered this as in our environment. You could turn off alert forwared on your ILO or setup an event filter to ignore certain envents form the ILO or server.

Re: Duplicate SNMP trap from the same server issue.
Check that the lights out card is not forwarding these SNMP traps. Its under the SNMP trap settings on the iLO config page.
