Ping (ICMP) settings are reset to the Global Defaults

I am wondering what makes the "Ping (IMCP) settings" reset to the global default.

I have some different settings on a few servers, but I noticed they are all reset to use the default global values (Timeout and Retries) some time. Why thoes value won't stay?

Thank you.

Re: Ping (ICMP) settings are reset to the Global Defaults

Hi,

I have the same problem.

Tried to change the globalsettings.prop and globalsettings.prop.bkp file, located in C:\program files\hp\systems insight manager\config

If I reboot the HP IC Server, the globalsettings.prop.bkp file is unchanged, but the globalsettings.prop file is reseted to default.

In the globalsettings.tpl I didn't find an option fpr ICMP settings.

Any idea?

regards

Re: Ping (ICMP) settings are reset to the Global Defaults

Found it:

there is another file named: globalsettingsupd.tpl

Template File for Updates?!

There is an entry to reset the ICMP setting to 2 seconds.

Re: Ping (ICMP) settings are reset to the Global Defaults

There are 2 files globalsettings.tpl and globalsettingsupd.tpl, during installation they get merged into one property file.

if it helped, award me Kudos or Points. Thanks :)

Re: Ping (ICMP) settings are reset to the Global Defaults

during installation?

If I restart the HPIC server, the settings will be reseted, too. If I make changes in the globalsettingsupd.tpl file, it works.

It makes no odds doing changes in the webinterface of HPIC as well as directly in the globalsettings.tpl, everytime I reboot the server, the globalsettingsupd.tpl will override the changes I've done.

Can we fix it, so we can change settings persistent in the webinterface?

Re: Ping (ICMP) settings are reset to the Global Defaults

One should use GlobalSettings.properties file for any user defined changed. changes are not supposed to be made in *.tpl file.

GlobalSettings.properties = GlobalSettings.tpl + GlobalSettingsupd.tpl

if it helped, award me Kudos or Points. Thanks :)

Re: Ping (ICMP) settings are reset to the Global Defaults

Ok, I understand.

But something is going wrong. The problem exist since the installation of the HPIC 7.1 Hotfix Kit.

Whatever I do, it doesn't make any difference wether I change something by the webinterface or directly in the globalsettings.prop. Every time I reboot the HPIC server, it will create a new globalsettings.prop from GlobalSettings.tpl + GlobalSettingsupd.tpl.

e.g.:

1. changing the IcmpTimeout from default "2" to "30" in the webinterface

2. verifying the change in globalsettings.props --> change ok. IcmpTimeout = 30 (in globalsettings.props)

3. rebooting the server

4. opening globalsettings.props --> IcmpTimeout = 2

We have three HPIC server and the problem exists on every of the three server since the hotfix update.

Re: Ping (ICMP) settings are reset to the Global Defaults

Can you please share the version of HPSIM that you are using, the issue was observed in HPSIM 7.1 and was fixed in HPSIM 7.1 U2. In case it is HPSIM 7.1, install the latest hotfix.

if it helped, award me Kudos or Points. Thanks :)

It seems we have not the update2 version, have we?

By the way I can tell you, that our HPIC service restarts every day. So every day a new globalsettings.prop will be created from globalssettings.tpl and globalsettingsupd.tpl

thank you for your efforts

Danny
