On the client side there are a series of agents and the SMH. These can be installed as part of a proliant Support Pack, available for a variety of OSes.
There's a degree of configuration, snmp settings and trust relationships, but HP SIM has the ability to replicate a lot of settings, so the amount of work is limited.

The documentation is very good, see www.hp.com/go/hpsim and follow the link to the reference library. It's worth downloading the technical reference guide.

HPSIM can also identify and process snmp traps from non-server devices, e.g. HP switches and SANs.

Is SIM is equivalent to HMC of AIX??
