2/15 Loader need to replace drive
Hello all,
I have a couple of old 2/15 HP Libraries with 2x DLT-7000's in them. I want to replace one of them with a drive pulled from a broken library. Does anyone have any information on how to remove the drive from these loaders and replace it? I cannot find any doc's and don't want to break things as I replace them.

Re: 2/15 Loader need to replace drive
Frank:
Try this link:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual&docIndexId=3124&locale=en_US&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=64012
If that's not your 2/15 model, go here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Product.jsp?prodTypeId=12169&prodCatId=64247&locale=en_US
and select our product from the list, then look for a selection about manuals/documentation.
Good luck!
Roger

Re: 2/15 Loader need to replace drive
Me again:
Try this manual:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpg28402/lpg28402.pdf
Sorry I'm reduced to guessing. I don't know what a 2/15 library is and can't find any specific references to it. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

Re: 2/15 Loader need to replace drive
The second manual link posted by Roger is the only 2/15 manual currently available. There were a couple of different models but the only significant manual difference was in how the SCSI cables attach and how temination is selected so this manual should be pretty close.
Unfortunately it doesn't show the drive replace procedure. The main thing to watch out for when replacing the drives is that you don't snag any cables and damage them. Otherwise the replacement is pretty straight forwared.
If you remove the front bezel the drives are in cans held in with a screw on each side. The SCSI cable usually connects directly to the drive and a few other cables connect to a circuit board. Remove the SCSI cable at the drive and all other cables at the board. Remove the two screws and slide the drive out. Reverse procedure to reinstall. I haven't changed one of these in a couple of years and am writing from memory so the basic procedure should be correct but I can't give too many details.
Note that there are some DLT-7000 2/15's that were upgraded from DLT-4000 units. Those libraries are narrow SCSI and you have to use a convertor on the drive to attach narrow but the same drive can be put in a wide library by removing that convertor. If you have a DLT4000 drive and a wide library then that combination was never built and you might be able to get the drive in with some convertors but I can't promise it would work.
