I have a legacy system and I need to restore old data that was backed up in DDS (1,2,3) and DLT (70 GB) formats.
I have a C4317A (rack mount 2U) I wish to connect to a rp7400 (A3639) at the core I/O.
So, I need a DDS3 drive and a DLT drive. Both must work with LVD and fit into C4317A
I searched in partsurfer but there are a miss information about compatibility
Please, do you have any clue?
Thanks in advance

Re: About external tape drives for rp7400 with rack mount
the product part number for the DDS3 dat drive is C6365A to fit in the C4317A 2u enclosure.
Unfortunatly HP never made a DLT drive to fit in the 2u enclosure. They only ones to fit in the 4u enclosures(C4318A/B). DLT drives where mostly 4u high.
Not 100%, but seem to think that the dlt's where all FWD scsi too, not LVD scsi, so you would need a FWD scsi card in the server like an A4800A.
or you get just an external LVD DLT drive to hook up to the server

Re: About external tape drives for rp7400 with rack mount
just checked partsurfer and it seems to make sense to me. search under C4317A and you get the drives compatible with the 2u enclosure.
search for C4318B and you get the drives compatible with the full height enclosure. DLT's are only listed here. both se scsi and fwd.
another thing for you to check is the compatability of the dlt tapes though? are they XIII/4000/7000/8000 type tapes as not all drives work with all tapes

Re: About external tape drives for rp7400 with rack mount
I have one enclosure C4318B and one C6375A (DLT 7000)
Then, the option is:
For DLT tapes: Buy one A4800A adapter and one C2905A terminator. What about cable ?
For DDS tapes: Buy one C6365A Smart DDS3 DAT drive and connect to core I/O. What about the cable ? Is it necesary one terminator ?

Solutionyes I would use a terminator on both drives
The cables you need for the drives to scsi cards are
C2924A 68-68pin HD FWD scsi cable 2.5mtr for the A4800A -> DLT 7000
C2362A/B 68HD - 68VHD pin lvd scsi cable 2.5mtr for the DDS drive to the core IO on the RP7400
Andy
PS please asign points where you think are required to your posts

Re: About external tape drives for rp7400 with rack mount
no you do not need fans as the drives both have them inside there chassis to keep the drive cool
Andy
