Any way to update a Legacy DAT DDS2 drive firmware on non-Compaq system?

Hi. I have a ARCHIVE 4326XX 27871-XXX4BGG that was sold by Compaq back in 1996 timeframe.

I have found an update for the firmware on RomPAQ download SP8050.

My problem is that this drive is no longer being used in a Compaq server... and I do not have access to one at this location. The drive works and is attached to an Adaptec 2940 SCSI controller.

The ROMPaq Options update program does not detect the drive. I have even booted with DOS ASPI drivers and it further does not detect it.

Seagate (the OEM for the drive) says they can not update it with their FUP.EXE because it has Compaq firmware on it.

Is there any way I can update this drive short of putting it into a Compaq Server? Are there any alternate firmware update programs?

Thank you.

The tape drive firmware cannot be upgraded via a non -Compaq SCSI controller and Server .
