BSODs when using Ultrium 460 + Windows Backup

We have a rack-mounted Ultrium 460 tape drive linked to a ProLiant DL380 G4 server and are trying to set it up for backups. However, whenever I open up the Windows Backup tool, the server will BSOD with the error IRQ_DRIVER_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO.

This does not happen if the tape drive is switched off. The drivers installed originally were from the Ultrium CD provided, but I have tried uninstalling these drivers and installing the latest from HP's site. The strange thing is that I've run HP's tape test tool and got a positive result for all tests.

This sounds more like a Windows/Server HW, than Tape error...

Which OS are you using, and ServicePack level?
How much RAM?

Which SCSI controllers do you have?
And is there anything else on the same controller as the tape drive?

Re: BSODs when using Ultrium 460 + Windows Backup

The server is using Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, v5.2 build 3790.

It has 3.5GBs of RAM

I believe it uses two LSI Ultra320 SCSI 2000 Series adapters, one solely for the tape drive.

Re: BSODs when using Ultrium 460 + Windows Backup

two thing to check:

be sure the drive is not on the same bus then the disk, you can check this at boot up process

then be sure you do not have a bent/broken pin on the data cable connecting the drive to the controller
