Backup

If I backed up a server with a 40/80 drive and tape would I be able to restore all the information from this tape using a 35/70 drive.

Re: Backup

Not likely as the 40/80 uses a different format of cartridge... If you used a 35/70 cartridge in the 40/80 AND the same software, it should work.

Re: Backup

The 35/70 (7000 series) and 40/80 (8000 series) both use DLTtape IV cartridges. The issue is backwards compatibility. The 40/80 can read/write a tape from a 35/70 but I doubt that the 35/70 can read/write a tape created with a 40/80.

Re: Backup

From my experience. the 40/80 can reformat the tape used by the 35/70 and then read/write to it. When I try to read from a tape formated by a 35/70, the 40/80 will not read it due to the block size that is used in the formatting. Maybe someone knows where I can modify the block size to read the 35/70?
